[Tokyo, Japan; 15 May 2024] Vena Energy, a leading renewable energy company in the Asia-Pacific region, announced the successful execution of a corporate Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Mitsubishi Corporation Clean Energy. This landmark agreement will facilitate the procurement of electricity generated by the Maibara Solar Project, a 31.65MW photovoltaic power station currently under construction in Maibara City, Shiga Prefecture.
The Maibara Solar Project is expected to generate enough clean renewable energy to power approximately 8,560 Japanese households annually, offering low-emission electricity generation equivalent to avoiding approximately 18,600 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions per annum and saving up to 31 million litres of water annually compared to conventional thermal energy generation methods.
Raul Rienda, Head of Japan at Vena Energy, expressed gratitude to local governments and host communities for their support and allowing Vena Energy to harness the region’s natural resources responsibly. He remarked, “Vena Energy has successfully reached the milestone of 922 MW in operating capacity across Japan. We are very honoured to collaborate with Mitsubishi Corporation Group on this journey towards carbon neutrality. Our commitment to actively engaging in the corporate PPA market underscores our dedication to supporting corporate decarbonization efforts and Japan’s transition to a decarbonized society.”
Takao Fujii, CEO and President at Mitsubishi Corporation Clean Energy states, “In the electric power business, Mitsubishi Corporation Group is working to establish an electric power value chain that integrates renewable power generation and sales, in order to realize a carbon-neutral society. Together with Vena Energy, we are very pleased to provide customers with the environmental value of electricity generated from Maibara Solar Project, thereby contributing to the realization of a decarbonized society.”
As Vena Energy and Mitsubishi Corporation Clean Energy join forces, they exemplify a shared vision of sustainability and corporate responsibility, propelling the nation toward a greener future.
