The Nimaida Wind Project is poised to become the largest onshore wind asset in Fukui Prefecture, comprising 12 state-of-the-art wind turbines. Once operational, it will have the capacity to provide clean, renewable energy to approximately 26,500 Japanese households annually. The anticipated annual generation from the project will be equivalent to avoiding approximately 57,500 tonnes of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions each year and saving up to 98 million litres of water annually compared to traditional thermal energy generation methods.

Scheduled for completion in 2026, the project’s groundbreaking ceremony was attended by esteemed guests including Tomohiro Shishihara, Director of the Energy and Environment Department of Fukui Prefecture, and Shigeru Saigyo, Mayor of Fukui City.

The development of the Nimaida Wind Project aligns with the principles outlined in the “Act on Promoting Generation of Electricity from Renewable Energy Sources Harmonized with Sound Development of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and the Fukui Renewable Energy Rural Revitalization Council.” This collaborative effort involves residents, industry experts, government officials with a shared commitment to fostering sustainable development across agriculture, forestry, and regional economies.

Raul Rienda, Head of Japan, Vena Energy, expressed appreciation for the support received from Fukui Prefecture, Fukui City, and the local community. “We are honoured to commence construction of the Nimaida Wind Project with the support and collaboration of Fukui Prefecture, Fukui City, and the residents of the area,” Raul stated. “This project will contribute to Fukui Prefecture’s GHG reduction target of 28% reduction by FY2030 (compared to FY2013) and accelerate Japan’s Green Transformation (GX). We remain committed to advancing renewable energy initiatives that drive local economic growth and employment opportunities.”
